Sofia Herrera-Acosta

Sofia Herrera-Acosta has been a Community Research Associate with the CCL since June 2025. A recent graduate with a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from the University of North Carolina - Charlotte, Sofia has three years of experience working with youth and families, focusing on analyzing socio-emotional disparities faced by immigrant and Latino/a/x individuals through group and systemic levels. She also has previous research experience in examining and communicating quantitative and qualitative research findings of Charlotte Latina mothers’ employment and childcare experiences and their related suggestions to address such gaps. Sofia, a native of Raleigh, is now a Charlotte resident with connections to local organizations promoting immigrant and Latinx community members’ educational, legal, mental and physical health, and financial needs. Sofia plans to pursue a Masters of Social Work (MSW) in the near future.
