Terrance Hawkins

Terrance Hawkins has been a Community Research Associate with the CCL since May 2022. Terrance is a local community organizer who has experience working with youth for more than two decades, specifically Black and Latinx youth who have been criminalized and/or pushed out of traditional school settings. Terrance is a Winston-Salem native with deep connections to the local community and various organizations, including as the Founder and Executive Director of Lit City Youth Development, one of the CCL’s community partners. Lit City runs a Freedom School for Black youth in the East Side of Winston-Salem each summer and hosts programming in a number of local schools throughout the school year. Terrance has also facilitated countless community education programs, provided resources to individuals and families navigating criminal legal system involvement, and participated in local grassroots violence interruption projects.
